HCMC to build new $210mln Thu Thiem bridge
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport plans to seek approval from the municipal People’s Council at its meeting next month for a project to build a fourth bridge spanning the Saigon River and leading to Thu Thiem Peninsula under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) format.
Construction of the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is estimated to cost VND5 trillion ($210 million).
The bridge will be over 2 kilometers long and 28 meters wide, with six lanes and two pedestrian sidewalks.
It is expected to be in service for up to 100 years with a design speed of 60 km/h and a capacity of withstanding magnitude-7 earthquakes.
It will connect the Thu Thiem new urban area, District 7, and Thu Duc City, and will be built in the 2024-2028 period.
The southern city has eight key transport projects during the 2022-2025 period that will be prioritized for implementation after sufficient capital is allocated.
