Phu My Hung And The Heart Of “Hands For Community
The 12th cozy and solemn scholarship ceremony for nationwide excellent students awarded by the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund ended on September 20th , 2014. With each passing year, the silent activities and contributions to the community by Phu My Hung increasingly show clearly what the next generation continues to follow the steps of the kind-hearted elder – the deceased President Lawrence S. Ting – to fulfill his wish to continue to perform charity work, especially in support of education for the land which he considered as his second homeland.
Up to September 20th , 2014, the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund has held 12 times scholarship ceremonies in Ho Chi Minh City and has directly awarded nearly 4,000 scholarships to excellent students of universities and high schools in the North, Central and South at 10,000,000 dong / 1 school year / university student and VND 4,500,000 dong / 1 school year / high school student. The total amount of money the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund directly awarded is more than 29 billion dong.
In addition to direct scholarships, the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund also awards scholarships through the sponsor funds of the country, such Fund for Vietnamese Children, HCMC Association for poor patients, Ho Chi Minh City Association for the disabled and orphaned children in Ho Chi Minh City, the Fund for the poor established by Committee of the Fatherland Front VN – Ho Chi Minh, Vu A Dinh Fund, … and associations for study encouragement of the provinces. Up to October , 2013, the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund awarded 54, 118 scholarships totaling nearly 41 billion dong.
In addition to offering scholarships to individuals, the program “Moving Forward with IT” on the initiative of Phu My Hung company to promote economic development, society and culture of the country was officially was launched in mid-2006 via the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund . Up to this point there were 113 labs with an internet connection and IT devices to equip 89 schools across the country
On 06.08.2014, the Fund cooperated with Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunication, HCMC University of Natural Science to organize installation guide and offered the Connector of microscopy and computer to 82 secondary schools and high schools of 16 southern provinces at Worker Activity Center , Tan Thuan Manufacturing Zone.
The total funding value of this stage cost 410 million dong. The Fund has also organized seminars, exchange of experiences between professosr of Taiwan Information Technology Institute and teachers of the three regions to help teachers get more information about network administration, high school educational software and the application of E-learning tools in teaching. The total value of the program “Moving Forward with IT” is about 33 billion dong so far.
The Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund Do pays attention not only to education sector but also to health sector, improve public infrastructure in disadvantaged areas in the city. Support the health sector is the program that bears the name Tsien Peng Luan, the former chairman of CT & D and also a partner of Mr. Lawrence S. Ting.
With medical assistance program, the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund has funded the construction of health stations in Ca Mau, Ben Tre with medical equipment, medicines and testing chemicals. In addition, nearly 12 thousand wheelchairs were offered to the disabled, the wounded in 44 cities across the country, which is a great pride of those who are working for the Fund. The practical activities of the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund convinced Medshare (USA) via the Fund, to support medical equipment and supplies to health facilities in Vietnam. The first pilot shipment included 1,231 new parcels totaling more than 2.8 billion dong to Vietnam at the end of November, 2011
By November, 2012, the second shipment with a total value of more than 4 billion dong arrived in HCMC and in October 2013, the third shipment worth more than 3 billion continued to be sent to Vietnam. The medical equipment of Medshare was formally handed over by the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund to the Hospitals, Medical Centers in Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Nha Be, Department of Health in Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Tra Vinh …
In the list of medical support activities, there are also supports for poor children suffering from pediatric cardiac surgery at University of Medicine and hand surgery costs for children according to the call of the Viet Nam Association for Children Protection. A realistic appreciation of the Fund for the people in Nha Be was the opening of Dialysis Center and the supplying of equipment to hospitals in Nha Be District at the beginning of January, 2013. Up to February 2014, the total funding costs for the health sector of the Fund was more than 36 billion dong.
In addition to education, health, the Fund also contributes to support disaster victims, surveys and workshops related to health sector, judiciary, tax, … Moreover, with the expectation that many companies and businesses join hands for funding activities which have the meaning of socialized education, the Fund has acted as a bridge to support Cathay United Bank to award scholarships to primary school pupils in Quang Nam Province and Ho Chi Minh city. After 6 years of implementation, the program has supported 6,600 students with more than 3.6 billion dong.
Since its inception, it can be said that the Lawrence S. Ting Memorial Fund has gone on a meaningful 10 year journey. What the Fund did are not merely the activities contributing to the community, to the society, but deep in those activities is the heart of those who are always working hard for charity, doing their best for the activities beneficial to the society in Vietnam.
