Theme of Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival “Flowers and Grass of the Country” Lunar New Year 2015

“Time flies so fast, Waiting for nobody”.

That old folk song always makes people’s hearts moved when the year ends and the new year is coming. Also at this time, the Organizing Committee of Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival begins to put all efforts in the preparation for the coming traditional spring flower festival with many new ideas.

We say ‘tradition’ because for more than 6 New Years this Spring Flower Festival has been going with the spectators, since the Buffalo Year 2009, Tiger Year 2010, Rabbit Year 2011, Dragon Year 2012, Snake Year 2013 and Horse Year 2014. We prepare new ideas because though based on the exclusive idea “ Flowers and grass of the country” the Organizing Committee always requests a new perspective, a new creativity developed from the main theme, such as: reproducing the rice fields on the modern streets in Phu My Hung in Dragon Year 2012; in Snake Year 2013 building beautiful sceneries and passionate lifestyle of the country; in Horse Year 2014 introducing the typical aquatic flowers and species of Viet Nam … So, what is the new theme of Lunar New Year 2015?

After the debate, exchange, searching, the Organizing Committee has suggested a major theme and two new features for this Lunar New Year:

Theme: Harvest Season, season of golden rice, prosperity, festivals, holidays …

The above folk song  evokes the feeling of longing and prosperity of Vietnamese people expecting the spring to come. Tet is always the season of prosperity and reunion. And the image of a prosperous agricultural country represents nothing more than the golden paddy fields awaiting to be harvested, the harvesting equipment lying around the field, the barns which are full, the countrygirls carrying rice along the country roads, the new rice pots …  ‘Harvest Season’  is therefore the chosen theme for Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival this year.

The designers will create glorious golden rice road, the small landscapes of golden rice terraces, on which the prosperous harvest season will be reproduced with the scenes of harvesting, threshing, rice carrying on shoulders. Moreover, the organizer will cooperate with University of Agriculture to establish  an exhibition area  to present various rice species being cultivated for the youth to understand how their daily rice bowl is grown. The collection of scarecrows guarding the paddy fields from north to south will also be on display.

At Ben Xuan, ie.  the Crescent Lake area, we will reconstruct Gian Thuy Luc, the traditional activities on the river of the western part of the south during Tet. It is a festival of boats and water, when the river is full of boats decorated with beautiful sceneries, the old tales, flower lamps, sounding music … to celebrate the prosperous season.

The new features

Harvest Season  itself is attractive, but it does not stop here, spring flower festival  this year also has two new features.

The first new feature is the presence of the international gardens, where the guest countries will present  their national flowers blooming  with flowers and grass of Vietnam.

And the second new feature is the spring sky draped with kites echoing kite flutes. The spectacular and gorgeous kites, the giant flying beasts … will make  the spring sky over Lake Crescent, Phu My Hung Spring Street become an unforgettable picture of an extraordinary combination of beautiful landscapes on the street , on the water and in the sky …

A small work of big ambitions

All efforts of Phu My Hung in organizing Spring Flower Festival every year do not merely mean organizing an event, a regular festival. When doing this, the organizing committee wants to carry out an ambition, to bring the soul of the country to the city, so that each Vietnamese person, between a modern industrial  lifestyle with many  chaos, has a chance to breathe the unique and peaceful air of the homeland, and the memories of the soul of Vietnam. And this is also the event to contribute to strengthening the awareness of protecting the natural environment, cultural environment, in order that everybody loves the homeland  and also  passes the love to the young generation who are  being separated from the origin.

With those requirements, the organizers always have to keep in mind the basic criteria “Flowers and Grass of the Country” and from the criteria try to “bring the country flavor to the city, bringing the love for our country to every home in the spring “!
